Community Care
When VA services are unavailable

The Department of Veterans Affairs can pay for emergency medical care at non-VA emergency rooms. You must notify the VA within 72 hours of your emergency room visit. In certain other cases, you can receive care from a community provider, but it must be approved before getting treatment.
